Leeds – The Football Association (FA) has launched a formal investigation into the conduct of Leeds United supporters following Saturday's fiery Premier League clash against Tottenham at Elland Road. The club now faces the prospect of a significant fine after two separate incidents saw objects thrown from the stands towards visiting players.
The tense match, which ended in a 2-1 victory for Tottenham, was marred by dangerous behaviour from a minority of home fans.
The first flashpoint occurred when Tottenham full-back Pedro Porro was struck by a vape while preparing to take a corner. Fortunately, Porro was uninjured by the object and managed to see the lighter side, humorously pretending to smoke the device before producing an assist for Mohammed Kudus.
However, a second incident later in the match was viewed far more seriously. After scoring what would be the winning goal, Tottenham winger Mohammed Kudus was celebrating near the home supporters when a bottle was hurled from the crowd. Kudus was performing his signature celebration, sitting on a stool, when the object flew at speed, narrowly missing his head as his teammates ran to congratulate him on the goal.
According to reports, these two events have now triggered a formal probe by the FA. The governing body is investigating the missile-throwing incidents, which could result in a hefty financial penalty for the Yorkshire club for failing to control their supporters.
Leeds United and West Yorkshire Police are expected to review CCTV footage from the stadium in an effort to identify the individuals responsible.
