Man Seriously Injured in Piccadilly Gardens Stabbing, Two Arrested
Manchester, UK – Two men have been arrested after a man was stabbed during a 'fight' in Manchester's Piccadilly Gardens last night, leaving him with serious injuries. The victim remains in hospital this morning.
Police were called to reports of a fight in the city centre square at approximately 9 PM on Sunday, July 27th. Officers arriving at the scene discovered a man suffering from serious injuries. He was immediately transported to hospital, where his condition is stable but serious.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed that two individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the incident. A 19-year-old man is currently being questioned on suspicion of assault, while a 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray. Both remain in police custody.
This morning, a large police cordon remains in place, encompassing a significant area of Piccadilly Gardens. The extensive tape-off begins near the MCR Live hub, a pop-up bar that was active for the Oasis concerts and had been showing the Lionesses football game last night. The main walkway through the gardens is also taped off, with the cordon stretching around towards the Market Street side of the square.
Inside the cordoned-off area, four forensic tents have been erected. Two of these tents are located close to the tram tracks, while the other two are situated within the street food village section of the gardens. Uniformed officers are currently standing guard at various points around the perimeter.
Despite the ongoing police investigation and extensive cordon, local transport services appear unaffected, with trams and buses continuing to run past the scene. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the stabbing is ongoing.
