The blaze broke out at Storage World on Old Hall Street at approximately 4:50 PM on Wednesday. Firefighters battled the fire over three days amid sweltering heat, deploying more than half a dozen fire engines and an aerial unit to contain the flames.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident. Initial investigations suggest the fire involved lithium-ion batteries, which contributed to the intensity of the blaze.
On Friday afternoon, June 20th, Assistant Chief Fire Officer Barry Moore confirmed that the decision to demolish the building was made to, "mitigate any risk to life", in the affected area.
Storage World issued a statement expressing their commitment to customers, indicating they will reach out once the situation has stabilised.
The community and authorities continue to assess the aftermath as demolition preparations get underway.
